Securing Files with Data Encryptor

Data Encryptor is designed to hide and encrypt personal files. With AES-128 or AES-256 encryption you can safely hide your files so that even the system will not see them.
1To start using Data Encryptor, create a password, enter it in the suggested field and click Setup. You will be using this password later each time you open the tool.

2Select a file/folder or several items you would like to encrypt and hide. There are two ways to do it:
- Click the Add button, select the items you would like to encrypt, select the encryption method – AES-128 or AES-256, setup another password specifically for these items, and click Encrypt.

- Drag items you would like to encrypt to Data Encryptor's work area, select the encryption method – AES-128 or AES-256, setup another password specifically for these items, and click OK.

3The items will appear in the list, with the image of an open lock to the right of the item name.

4As soon as your item is put to Data Encryptor, the original item is moved to the Trash. When you reveal this item in the Finder, you will see an arrow near its icon, meaning that an alias has been created for this item. To view the original item, right-click the alias and select Show Original.

5Click either the open lock image or the Hide button to encrypt the items. As a result, the image will instantly change to a closed lock, and the alias file will disappear from the Finder.

6If you have added several items, you can click the Hide All button to encrypt all of them at once.

7To unencrypt the items, click either the closed lock image or the Unhide button. Once you do it, the image will change from the closed lock back to the open one, but you will have to enter the password to make the items visible again.

In case of password loss, you will not be able to restore the encrypted items.

8The items will again appear in the Finder as aliases. To return the original item, select its name in Data Encryptor and click the Remove button.

It will not remove the item from your Mac – just from the Data Encryptor list.

If you cannot find the items you encrypted, click the Locate lost items button. In the Finder window that opens, select the folder where you last saw your items and click Open. MacKeeper will scan this folder for encrypted items and inform you about the results.

If nothing is found, an alert will appear.
